Ancient hands.
Contemporary rooms.
Handwoven rugs made in Albania, by women who refused to forget.
Each Thurje rug is handwoven using techniques carried through generations of mountain communities. We make rugs for people who want to live with something real: something with weight, origin, and a history you can feel underfoot.
We do not create décor.
We build
Monoliths.
Founded in Korçë in 2020, Thurje is a workshop and brand dedicated to contemporary handwoven rugs. We work at the intersection of traditional Albanian flatweave technique and contemporary graphic design — facilitating a conversation between young designers and local women weavers whose knowledge spans generations.
Weaving is Albania’s oldest language. We do not save it — we use it, deploying the ancestral logic of the loom to translate contemporary visions into permanent, physical objects.
The loom does not
hurry.

Most of our rugs are flatwoven. There is no pile to conceal error, no height to absorb imprecision. Every thread is exposed. Progress is measured line by line, tension by tension. The work advances at the speed the structure allows — slow, deliberate, irreversible.

Handwoven and embroidered with patience in our workshop, ‘Çika’ emerges slowly, guided by the steady rhythm of the loom and the careful, deliberate touch of the needle.
